Instagram character counter — Bio + Caption
Check as you type whether your Bio and Caption fit Instagram's limits (150 / 2200 characters). Hebrew, emoji and hashtag aware — with a smart-cut preview when you go over.
Bio — profile description
150 character limit
Caption — post text
2200 character limit
How it works
The counter treats text the way Instagram (and humans) see it — with full support for emoji and Hebrew combining marks:
- Complex emoji (family, flags, skin tones) count as a single character — matching Instagram's own behavior
- Hebrew niqqud and combined marks count as one grapheme (what your eye actually sees)
- Everything runs in your browser — no text is sent to any server
Why this matters
Instagram silently truncates Bios over 150 characters and Captions over 2200 — usually mid-word, with no warning. Naïve counters measure bytes or UTF-16 code units, so they give wrong numbers for Hebrew and emoji. This tool counts the way Instagram counts, and shows a smart-cut preview that won't break words.
FAQ
Why does my count differ from Instagram's editor?
This tool counts graphemes — what the eye perceives — including complex emoji and Hebrew letters with marks. That matches how users read captions and what Instagram displays in the truncation-relevant places.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. The tool runs 100% in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, saved to cookies or localStorage. Close the tab and it's gone.
Are there limits for Stories and Reels too?
Stories have a 125-character Alt-Text limit for accessibility, and Reels use the same 2200-character description limit as regular Captions. For Reels captions, use the Caption counter above.
Want to schedule, trim and publish this automatically?
